Titel: "Nanofluidic transport through solid state and soft nanoporous membranes"

 

Abstract:

Active control of ionic and molecular transport plays important roles in many chemical and biological analytical processes. Nanofluidic systems hold the promise for such control through electrostatic interactions between molecules and channel surfaces. We fabricated alumina nanopore membranes by anodization of aluminum thin films. Based on the structural platform, we developed nanofluidic diodes and transistors to modulate the ionic transport through the membrane. Beyond the solid state structures, we demonstrated well-organized and size-predictable nanoporous networks of alginate hydrogels. The soft nanoporous network exhibits unique thermodynamic properties which are absent in solid state structures. Finally potential applications of the nanofluidic systems for on-chip sensing and controlled drug delivery will be discussed.
